Mac Pro 1,1 / 2,1 and Mountain Lion

So when Mountain Lion Preview was released the other day, many Mac Pro users started going crazy that their machines were not supported.

Although the Mac Pro 1,1 / 2,1 have been supported by OSX longer then the other Mac models, they are perfectly fine in terms of performance even today. 4 CPU cores and many gigs of ram should be fine for any OS, one could think. But Apple just does not want anything to do with it.

So what do we do? We fix it ourselves!

The fear was that ML only had 64-bit kernel, which Mac Pro can not boot because it lacks 64-bit EFI. But as netkas forum poster Jamie discovered, this is not the case, atleast not in the Preview version.

You can try out the Mountain Lion OSX on Mac Pro 1,1 today by following Jamies guide:

And let’s hope nothing changes for the ultimate release.
